Toronto (November 18, 2008) - With football season in full swing and the Grey Cup fast approaching, it's time to start thinking about the foods we love to enjoy this time of year. For many Canadians, chili is a popular comfort food, especially during the lead-up to winter.
Beginning today, Canadians are invited to tantalize their taste buds and put their best chili recipes to the test in the first-ever ZANTAC® Chili Challenge. To enter, Canadians can visit www.chilichallenge.ca and submit their original chili recipe for a chance to cook-off with Anthony Sedlak, celebrity chef and host of The Food Network's The Main.
"Few dishes bring out as much pride, originality and enthusiasm from amateur chefs, than an original homemade chili recipe," said Sedlak. "Chili is a staple for many football parties and I'm always interested in what Canadians are cooking up in their own kitchens. With the chili season here, I'm inviting Canadians to share their recipes and participate with me in the ZANTAC® Chili Challenge live cook-off."
All recipes will be displayed for site visitors to view, try and vote on. Of those recipes, three finalists will be selected to participate in a live chili cook-off event to be held in Toronto in January. Hosted by Anthony Sedlak, the cook-off will give the finalists the opportunity to put their original recipe to the test.
The grand prize winner of the chili cook-off, selected by a panel of judges, will receive an all-inclusive trip for two to the Mayan Riviera. The last date for recipe submissions is December 2, 2008. The last day for voting is December 16, 2008.
"We know that many Canadians enjoy spicy and meaty foods like chili, but we also know that those types of food can trigger heartburn," said Stephanie Wong, Brand Manager, ZANTAC® "Through the ZANTAC® Chili Challenge, we want to remind all Canadians that they can still enjoy the foods they love without the worry of heartburn, by properly preventing and treating it."
Two-thirds of Canadians suffer from heartburn, causing many to give up their favourite foods. What many sufferers don't realize is that heartburn can be prevented by taking an over-the-counter medication like ZANTAC® heartburn reliever before eating fatty and spicy foods.
The ZANTAC® Chili Challenge is open from November 18 to December 16, 2008. For more information about the competition, Anthony Sedlak or ZANTAC® products, please visit www.chilichallenge.ca.
