Connecting People To Do Good, Better

CloseShare This Page

The world is filled with people who care. Those who believe in a cause, and those who have made it their life’s work to help others. Bob Toth, of Cordis USA, is one such person.

Nearly seven years ago, Bob and other members of St. Joseph’s Parish in Miami Beach were interested in starting forming a St. Vincent’s de Paul chapter there.  Now, since, 2004, Bob has volunteered at the parish very Saturday morning, prepping and packing food.

Bob’s not alone. Many employees at the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies volunteer their time and efforts for great causes. But too often, things come between the people who want to help and the causes that need it. For an individual looking to get involved, the search for the right opportunity can be overwhelming.  For a nonprofit organization, finding volunteers and raising awareness about  the organization can be challenging.

Having supported philanthropic causes for more than 125 years, Johnson & Johnson saw that people and nonprofits needed an easier, more effective way to connect. So &you™ was created. Pronounced “And You”, it’s a groundbreaking new digital platform that helps both individuals and nonprofits do good work, better, together.

“Johnson & Johnson has a long history of being dedicated to the communities around us, and we view &you as an extension of that commitment,” says Sarah Colamarino, Vice President , Corporate Equity, Johnson & Johnson. “It’s a new way of looking at how we do good in the world.”

How does &you work? It starts with the &you widget. This unique new tool gives people a number of ways to help the causes they care about, and puts them all in one place for the first time. The &you widget lets a person find volunteer opportunities within 20 different “caring” categories and thousands of verified nonprofit organizations.

For example, a person interested in volunteering to help the environment can create a customized &you widget that shows volunteer and job opportunities, as well as events, news and ways to donate, all related to environmental causes. The widget can then filter all of this information by location and also help share them with friends and followers online.

A nonprofit organization can  customized their &you widget  to feature all of the organization’s volunteer and job opportunities, and events. People can then also make donations to  the nonprofit, as well. The nonprofit organization can then  the widget across the web, amplifying outreach to volunteers, donors and other supporters.

The &you widget can go on  a website, blog or Facebook page, and  and can also be shared  on Twitter, or over email, making it easy to spread the word about favorite causes and all the ways to help.

&you uses opportunities created by technology and social media to help Johnson & Johnson sustain our core mission of advancing the health and wellbeing of people worldwide. It’s made possible with the help of the following leading philanthropic resources: VolunteerMatch, Idealist, Network for Good, GuideStar and Do Something. Together, they provide the opportunity listings and news that fill the&you widget – thousands of safe, verified ways to get involved.

“&you lets us provide a connection point for thousands of organizations that need volunteers, financial resources, and support, and the millions of people who want to help,” says Colamarino. “It really allows us to use social media for social good.”
