EARTHWARDS® Recognized Products:

We are already over half way towards achieving our goal of 60 Earthwards® products by 2015. In July 2012, we had 33 products that had achieved Earthwards® recognition. The recognized products span all three sectors with Consumer having 18, Medical Devices and Diagnostics 10, and Pharmaceuticals 5. Some of the biggest Johnson & Johnson company brands have products that have achieved Earthwards® recognition including JOHNSON’S® NATURAL® Baby Wash, o.b.® Tampons, INVEGA® Sustenna™ (paliperidone), ACUVUE® OASYS® Brand Contact Lens, and the OneTouch® UltraMini® Testing Kit.

Some recent highlights of products that have received Earthwards® recognition include:

Two consumer products in France’s Le Petit Marseillais® line, the Extra Gentle Shower Gel - Currant & Cherry Tomato and Extra Gentle Bath and Shower - Chestnut & Pistachio, recently received EARTHWARDS® recognition for their sustainability improvements that reduce the weight of materials used, incorporate more sustainable packaging materials, and support a conservation project on France’s Mediterranean coast. In addition to developing and producing more sustainable products, the brand’s website educates consumers about proper recycling procedures at their products’ end of life.

Lifescan’s ONETOUCH® ULTRA® Blue Test Strips made significant sustainability improvements by placing all of the test strips into a single vial, which removed the need for the second vial. Therefore, there is less material used by weight, a reduction in secondary packaging because of a smaller carton, and increased space utilization during transportation because each pallet holds more cartons.

Our SIMPONI® Brand samples are now sent to doctors’ offices in boxes that can be reused up to 100 times, are 50% lighter than the previous shipper, use bio-based cooling media, and can be recycled at the end of life. What this has meant to our customers is a smaller, more convenient package that saves them space and the cost of disposing of the shipping packaging.
