Transparency

Society today expects heightened levels of transparency from all institutions – governments, universities, public entities, advocacy groups and businesses – reflecting the reality that in the course of ordinary operations, institutions of all kinds impact people. Johnson & Johnson understands the importance of transparency and has instituted enhanced disclosures in many areas of our business.

The patients and professionals who rely on our products place their trust in the reliability of our clinical research, the rigor of our scientific publications, the independence of professional education we fund and the integrity of our relationships with health care professionals.

In addition, we recognize the importance of sharing information on the public policies and political candidates we support as well as our progress against our sustainability and citizenship goals.

Funding to Health Care Professionals
Our companies work to prevent real or perceived conflicts of interest that may arise from relationships between companies and health care professionals. Consistent with our ongoing commitment to ensure ethical and transparent interactions with medical professionals, we regularly review and update our practices that guide interactions with health care professionals, institutions and other stakeholders in the health care system.

We also believe in greater transparency regarding the relationships between health care companies and physicians. Johnson & Johnson was one of the first large health care companies to support the Physician Payments Sunshine Act, which was incorporated into the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2009. The U.S. Pharmaceutical and Medical Device & Diagnostics companies of Johnson & Johnson began voluntarily providing information on their websites about the payments they make to physicians in 2010.
