Throughout the FIFA World Cup™, Johnson & Johnson was proud to make a difference on and off the field. Now that the tournament has concluded, take a moment to learn about how Johnson & Johnson cared for the health and well-being of all those involved, as well as throughout Brazil.
TOUR DO CARINHO AND WORLD BLOOD DONATION DAY: Caring for Families in Brazil
The Johnson & Johnson Tour do Carinho (Caring Tour) culminated at the end of May, becoming one of the largest blood donation campaigns in Brazil.
In conjunction with the company’s CARE INSPIRES CARE™ campaign and FIFA World Cup™ sponsorship, Tour do Carinho encouraged individuals across Brazil to celebrate and engage in caring actions, and save lives by donating blood.
We are pleased to announce that since the campaign’s launch in March, more than 23,000 blood donations were collected, a total that will potentially save up to 93,000 lives. This exceeded our goal of collecting 20,000 bags of blood.
Demonstrating its commitment to inspiring care, Johnson & Johnson leveraged LED boards surrounding the field at each of the four games on June 14—World Blood Donation Day—to encourage blood donation. We also created this video to demonstrate the power of blood donation through the stories of children who depend on this simple act of care.
MEDICAL ACTIVATION: Standardizing Equipment and Visuals to Care for Players on the Field
In addition to promoting health and well-being across the country through Tour do Carinho, we made care and medical treatment of FIFA World Cup™ players a top priority.
Johnson & Johnson partnered with FIFA to ensure every team was provided a standardized medical bag equipped with medical necessities and a portable defibrillator in case of sudden cardiac arrest. Each team physician was also provided with a general medical bag to assist with non-life-threatening medical issues on the pitch. For example, during the Group Match between Argentina and Bosnia and Herzegovina, both teams’ doctors were on the field tending to players with the Johnson & Johnson-branded medical equipment provided to every medical team.
This was the first time a sponsor of a FIFA World Cup™ had activated in a way that has had such tangible impact on both players and fans, and these developments have received wide recognition. Last month, 1999 FIFA World Cup™ Legend Brandi Chastain appeared live on both Fox & Friends and GMA Live as part of a CARE INSPIRES CARE™ media tour. She shared with millions of viewers our belief that one act of care can inspire others to engage in similar efforts andspoke about our emergency medical bag. Chastain also cited her experiences as a player, testifying to the reassurance professional athletes feel when a well-equipped kit is on the field at all times.
MEDICAL ACTIVATION: Caring for the Fans at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™
Johnson & Johnson was also committed to helping care for the general public in attendance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ matches.
During the Germany and Portugal Group Match, a journalist for World Football Insider got so caught up in the excitement that he tripped while finding his seat and cut his fingers. In this article he details his experience with the Johnson & Johnson FIFA medical offering, referencing the standardized uniforms that Johnson & Johnson developed in partnership with FIFA.
In addition to the uniforms, standardized visuals for first-aid equipment and stadium signage made it easier for everyone – from players to fans – to identify and receive the medical help they needed.
VOLUNTEER HEALTH SCREENINGS: Caring for Those Who Provide Care throughout the Tournament
Off the field, Johnson & Johnson also cared for more than 13,000 volunteers—who were integral to the success of the FIFA World Cup™.
We supported them throughout the tournament by providing free medical screenings in each host city to assess oral and cardiac health, glucose levels and body mass index. Read a FoxNews.com piece featuring Dr. Joe Ferro to learn more about the services provided by Johnson & Johnson within our Volunteer centers at all 12 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ cities.
To date, we have issued more than 7,200 health screenings at our Volunteer Centers across Brazil. We also featured the Johnson & Johnson Official 7 Minute Workout App in the volunteer center to further encourage healthy exercise habits.
