Johnson & Johnson has partnered with the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, through its Initiative for Global Environmental Leadership (IGEL), to convene health care professionals and share best practices for measuring and communicating the value of sustainability initiatives in the health care field.
In 2014, Wharton IGEL and Johnson & Johnson hosted their second annual one-day conference, Metrics That Matter, Messages That Motivate. The resulting report, Greener Hospitals: Building Consensus for Health Care Sustainability, examines best practices and challenges when it comes to developing, and communicating, the business case for sustainability investments across the health care industry. As a member of the Healthcare Plastics Recycling Council (HPRC), Johnson & Johnson collaborated with industry peers to produce HospiCycle: A Plastics Recycling Guide for Hospitals. The guide provides supporting tools to help hospitals navigate the process of initiating a plastics recycling program in a patient care setting.
