The sign of a really good commercial jingle is when you can sing it in its entirety 20, 25 or 30 years after you first heard it.
I was 7 years old in 1975.
Johnson & Johnson debuted its BAND-AID® Brand “Stuck On Me” ad campaign that year.
The ad and the jingle stuck (pun intended).
Featuring adorable kids and soon-to-be celebrities John Travolta and Teri Garr, the TV commercial spot was catchy and memorable.
I distinctly remember suffering a major fall off of my two-wheeler pink banana seat bike that produced a nasty scrape. I ran into the house, and my mom fixed me up with a BAND-AID.
Then we’d start singing “I am stuck on BAND-AID® Brand, ‘cause BAND-AID’s stuck on me.”
That jingle is part of my childhood. I don’t just think about boo-boos when I hear it. It harkens me back to long summer days, getting dirty, playing flashlight tag after dark. It is America in the 70s. Did you know that Barry Manilow wrote that jingle? Does it GET more 1970s than Barry Manilow?
The thing about a good jingle, though, is that it stands the test of time. It’s not just catchy in the moment – it’s catchy for generations.
So when I heard that our friends at BAND-AID® Brand were resurrecting the “Stuck on Me” campaign, the jingle came rushing back from the deepest recesses of my memory, and I haven’t stopped singing it and humming it since.
Jingles have that effect, don’t they?
Only this time around, BAND-AID® Brand is putting a digital twist on this nostalgic advertising favorite.
BAND-AID is giving families the chance to make THEIR child the next BAND-AID Brand Star with a fun new contest and a chance to win a $5,000 Toys “R” Us gift card. Eleven finalists will receive a $100 Toys “R” Us gift card.*
It’s easy to enter: take a video of your child(ren) singing the iconic jingle. Then, register and upload your video before September 2. BAND-AID® Brand team members will select a group of finalists, then the public will vote for the winner!
You can view the details, official rules, and videos that have already been submitted at http://www.band-aid.com/singalong.
My kids are already busily planning their video and learning the lyrics. And so the torch is passed to the next generation.
