LATISM 2013: Caring for the world starts with caring for YOU

By Susan Rucci, Manager, Corporate Social Media, Johnson & Johnson

Johnson & Johnson was delighted to once again partner with our friends at LATISM for its annual conference which recently took place at the Waldorf Astoria in New York.  LATISM is the largest organization for Latinos and Latinas engaged in social media.  Its mission is all about empowerment---helping moms, dads and communities take action around issues like education, business, technology and health.  That last one clearly resonates with us.   We believe good health is the foundation upon which a vibrant life is built.   That’s why we chose the theme ‘Caring for the world starts with caring for YOU’ for our suite and keynote panel discussion. [gallery ids="5592,5591,5593"] Our suite highlighted Johnson & Johnson programs that use social media for social good like Donate A Photo and text4baby™. Visitors also had the opportunity to add a ribbon to our Caring Wall with a personalized message about who inspires them to care. LATISM attendees also engaged with us online using the @JNJCares Twitter handle and our hashtag  #InspireCare.  We loved the inspirational tweets.

Watch more of Dr. Rivera’s health advice here: Susan Can, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Johnson & Johnson, discussed a new program between text4baby and Rite Aid to provide flu shots to pregnant women beginning this month.  Johnson & Johnson is a founding sponsor of text4baby which uses mobile technology to deliver important health information.

Susan discussed the Rite Aid partnership. And finally, LATISM 13 attendees heard from Raquel Garzon, the Vice President of Corporate and Sports Training Programs and Director of Nutrition at the Human Performance Institute, a Division of Wellness & Prevention, Inc. about the importance of having a sense of purpose to inspire healthy behaviors. There were so many special moments at the conference but ultimately our favorite involved busting a move… a salsa one… with Raquel.  She described microbursts--small, intensive bursts of exercise that give extended energy payoffs—and then encouraged all of us to join in.

I know I got my salsa groove on.  And, I wasn’t alone.  I looked around the room and everyone was up out of his or her seat dancing, laughing and smiling.  I think that was the best ‘payoff’ for us at Johnson & Johnson.  Health & wellness can be a lot of fun too!
