LATISM14: Deepening Relationships with the Latino Community

This week, Johnson & Johnson will head to Anaheim as we celebrate our fourth consecutive year as title sponsor of the LATISM (Latinos in Social Media) conference.

LATISM is the largest organization for Latinos and Latinas engaged in social media, dedicated to advancing the social, civic and economic status of the Latino community. We are proud to partner with LATISM year after year because the Latino community shares many of the same values with Johnson & Johnson: a commitment to families and children, and a passion for social good and serving communities. These shared values will be highlighted in everything we’re doing at LATISM this year. Here’s a sneak peek of what we have planned.

On Friday, November 14 at 9 a.m. PST/noon EST, we’ll be hosting a breakfast panel entitled Raising Caring Children: How To Make Social Good A Family Value. Joining me on stage will be parents, experts and our partner, GirlUp. We’ll have an open conversation about how parents can teach kids about giving back and encourage them to be active contributors to their communities well into adulthood. Our corporate Twitter handle, @JNJCares, will be live tweeting this event. You can follow along and join the discussion by following @JNJCares or the #LATISM14 hashtag.

We’ll also be sponsoring a Huffington Post Live livestream segment entitled Resettled but Unsettled Children on Friday, 11/14 at 10:30 a.m. PST/1:30 p.m. EST. The topic is the US border crisis and how we can ensure that the children caught in the middle are adequately cared for. Our partners, Save The Children and the American Academy of Pediatrics, will join others in this live streamed discussion.

Those same partners will be featured at a lunch panel sponsored by Univision on Friday, 11/14 at noon PST. Save The Children and the American Academy of Pediatrics will join Univision, Catholic Relief Charities, myself and others to discuss this timely and important topic. Again, @JNJCares will be live tweeting and you can follow/join by following @JNJCares and/or the #LATISM14 hashtag.

LATISM14 provides us the opportunity to share our social good app, Donate A Photo, with a wider audience. This month, two featured Donate A Photo causes this month directly benefit the Latino community: GirlUp donations help to provide school supplies to girls in Guatemala. And donations to the American Academy of Pediatrics help hold workshops for pediatricians about the trauma and stress that children seeking shelter in the U.S. are dealing with.

We’re also excited to have several Southern California Johnson & Johnson employees from our HOLA Employee Resource Group joining us at LATISM! They will participate in a Careers Suite, where Latino youth and their parents can learn about the many career paths open to them.

Whether you’re in Anaheim or not, there are plenty of ways to participate:

FOLLOW #LATISM14 and @JNJCares on Twitter during our panels to and add to the digital conversation

DONATE your photos through our Donate A Photo app to causes of your choice.
