As the parent of a six-year-old boy just gearing up for warmer weather and all the activities that go with it, I’m celebrating the fact that we’ve yet to endure a trip to the emergency room. And I’d like to keep it that way!
If you’re a parent too, you may already be familiar with Safe Kids Worldwide, a global organization dedicated to preventing injuries in children.
Safe Kids works with partners and organizations around the world to help prevent and reduce injuries from some of the most common activities in which our kids are involved. This can range from vehicle safety to sports safety to just general safety for children.
Within the United States, injuries are the number one killer of kids. The good news is that many of these injuries are preventable. And it’s something that Johnson & Johnson not only recognized but put their considerable support behind when the organization started over 25 years ago.
Johnson & Johnson is a founding partner in Safe Kids Worldwide, the first national and then global campaign to reduce accidental childhood injury. Since 1988, Johnson & Johnson has worked with Safe Kids to teach families about child injury prevention.
Since that time, Safe Kids has developed programs, held local clinics, conducted research, advocated for policy, and pioneered an online presence for injury prevention messaging, including water safety, fire safety, bike safety, medicine safety, home safety and youth sports safety.
Stay tuned for more information about Safe Kids and their programs, including practical information to help you as a parent. With the change in season (and warmer weather for many of us), we’ll need it even more!
