Last month, while Spring was just starting to emerge in the eastern half of the United States, I headed west to the cold and snowy state of Colorado. But it was worth it.

As a mom blogger, I was invited to attend the Lifesavers National Conference focusing on highway safety priorities. While in attendance, I had the opportunity to connect with one of our partners, Safe Kids.

Not only was I thrilled to meet and be welcomed by their team, but I also had a chance to sit down and talk with Kate Carr, President and CEO of Safe Kids Worldwide.

I was impressed not only by her commitment to the safety of children around the world but by her innovative spirit as she talked about their new branding and (now launched) website. Clearly, she wants to ensure her message is not only informative but appealing. And it’s paying off.

Her organization has declared today, May 18th, as Safe Kids Day. As part of the recognition, she’s challenging parents to take the “Safer in 7” challenge in her post in the Global Motherhood section of the Huffington Post:

“In honor of Safe Kids Day, we’ve created a “Safer in 7” challenge we want every family to take. When it comes to safety for children, we think about the basics: buckle up, wear a helmet, learn to swim, look both ways. But we sometimes forget some of the lesser-known things parents should think about such as button batteries, smoke alarms, and the dangers of distraction.”
