Editor’s note: Johnson & Johnson has more than 128,000 employees around the world. Throughout 2014, we’re going to bring you their unique stories. Whether they are employees who work with a nonprofit, mentor children, or simply volunteer at their local soup kitchen, we want to show that small acts of kindness can make big changes in the world we live in. These stories have inspired us, and we hope they’ll inspire you, too.

“Those who can lead have an obligation to do so, in the realm of citizenship…” General Robert Wood Johnson, 1949

Reed Jaboro, Sales Representative for Ethicon Surgical Care, along with his son Andrew (above), volunteers for the Mount Spokane Ski Patrol in Spokane, Washington. He decided to volunteer in order to learn valuable first-aid skills and has had numerous opportunities to put them to good use, both on and off the mountain. “In fact, I used those skills this winter after a 71-year old woman fell on the ice and injured her head and neck. We are taught to assess patients and provide first aid until patients can reach a higher level of care. An additional benefit to the program was getting to spend an enormous amount of time with my son.”
