The challenge

Across Greater Manchester, inefficiencies in urology and prostate cancer MDT processes were contributing to diagnostic delays, growing backlogs and variation in access to care.

Performance against the National Faster Diagnosis Standard of 28 days was inconsistent. This was placing pressure on the 62-day referral to treatment pathway.

Our shared goal

Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance and J&J set out to review and reform MDT working across the region to improve efficiency, reduce variation and support earlier diagnosis.

What we did

Using a recognised service mapping and MDT redesign approach, the partnership reviewed current MDT structures, decision making processes and anticipated demand.

Alternative MDT configurations were explored to better align capacity with patient need.
