Empowering Healthcare Entrepreneurs with the Start-up Initiative

On June 26, Johnson & Johnson Campus Basel hosted the second workshop of the 3rd annual Swiss HLG Start-up Initiative, in collaboration with Swiss Healthcare Licensing Group and BaseLaunch. Led and co-organized by Michael Hübner, Country Lead in Switzerland for Early Innovation Partnering and member of the Swiss Leadership Team, this initiative provides a complimentary educational and mentoring program designed for promising early-stage healthcare entrepreneurs, equipping them with vital tools for successful partnerships.

Why it matters: Johnson & Johnson external innovation group works hand-in-hand with innovators, helping accelerate their ideas with industry-leading incubation (JLABS), investment support (JJDC), and deep scientific and commercial expertise through our Innovation Centers. Our aim is to find innovative approaches to healthcare challenges and accelerate the development of the next generation of medicines for patients worldwide. However, with rapidly shifting geopolitical and life-sciences ecosystems, start-ups need strong business acumen to succeed. The Swiss HLG Startup Initiative equips early-career innovators with some of the skills they need in the global competition for pharma partnerships and venture capital (VC) investments.

Workshop series: At the recent workshop at Campus Basel, participants had a chance to present their innovations and receive honest and constructive feedback from industry experts in pharma and VC. This followed the first workshop in the series which took place last month in Montreux, covering the fundamentals of business development and offering invaluable networking opportunities with like-minded professionals. Looking ahead, the final two workshops will cover legal aspects of term sheets and deal structures in September, and asset and company financial valuation in November, furthering the initiative’s commitment to comprehensive entrepreneurial development.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to support the next generation of healthcare innovators.
