Chris Rieger has served as President and Representative Director of Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Innovative Medicine Japan (Legal entity name: Janssen Pharmaceutical K.K.) since June 2025. In this role, he oversees the entire pharmaceutical business in Japan. As a member of J&J Innovative Medicine’s Asia Pacific Leadership Team, Chris is committed to transforming the Japanese market, the largest in the region, and successfully launching innovative medicines that address the unmet needs of patients in Japan.
Since joining J&J’s pharmaceutical business in 2003, Chris has dedicated more than 20 years to J&J. He has held key roles across the United States and Asia Pacific (Japan, China, Singapore, Brunei), spanning both the Innovative Medicine and MedTech businesses. Chris brings extensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical business and experience across the product lifecycle, having led global projects in various disease areas, including mental and neurological disorders, infectious diseases, and immune disorders. He also directed the launch of an antipsychotic drug in the United States and developed innovative lifecycle management strategies for the immune disorder portfolio.
From 2021, Chris served as Head of the Surgery Business Division at J&J Medical Company (J&J MedTech), where he gained a deep understanding of Japan’s healthcare system and healthcare professionals. Under his leadership, the MedTech business consistently grew its market share in a highly competitive environment.
Chris’ success is attributed to his sincere leadership, competitive mindset, curiosity, and commitment to continuous learning. During his time off, he actively enjoys outdoor sports such as golf, running, and hiking, and cherishes spending time with his wife and three children.
Born in 1974 and originally from the United States, Chris holds a Master of Business Administration from Duke University, a Master of Science from Oxford University, and Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
