Johnson & Johnson named to Fortune‘s 2023 America’s Most Innovative Companies list

The company has been recognized on the inaugural list for its innovative spirit—a trait that’s been at the heart of Johnson & Johnson’s mission to improve health for people across the globe for over a century.

What do groundbreaking healthcare advances, a vibrant company mindset and an unwavering commitment to fostering new and creative ideas have in common?

They are all rooted in innovation.

Since its founding in 1886, innovation has been one of Johnson & Johnson’s core tenets, highlighted in Our Credo, the company’s guiding mission statement.

Today, the company is being honored for this dedication to innovation as it ranks in the top 20 on Fortune’s inaugural list of America’s Most Innovative Companies.

What It Means to Be an Innovative Company

Fortune and its partner, market research and data company Statista, reviewed more than 15,000 eligible companies to create the list. Each eligible company was measured against three pillars: product innovation, process innovation and innovation culture.

  • Product innovation encompasses product and service design and its usability and uniqueness, as well as innovations in research and development.
  • Process innovation evaluates innovation in sourcing and production, marketing, sales and support.
  • Innovation culture is measured by the extent to which a company internally fosters a spirit of entrepreneurship and creativity.
Earlier this year, Fortune spotlighted Johnson & Johnson as one of its World’s Most Admired Companies, taking the #1 spot in the Pharmaceutical category.

For 137 years, innovation has fueled the work happening inside and outside company walls—including groundbreaking efforts to tackle some of the world’s toughest health challenges, new ideas to support health equity solutions, galvanizing work toward building a healthier planet and more.

Over the years, Johnson & Johnson has been recognized for its cutting-edge approach to advancing healthcare and empowering patients.
