RAYNHAM, MA – (March 13, 2014) – Today DePuy Synthes Companies of Johnson & Johnson introduced DePuy Synthes Advantage™, a unique suite of provider-focused solutions focused on complementing the company’s extensive portfolio of clinically proven products with solutions that assist in driving optimal clinical and economic outcomes while striving to improve the patient experience.
“DePuy Synthes Advantage™ creates value for our customers that complement the depth and breadth of our portfolio,” said Gary Fischetti, Company Group Chairman, Orthopaedics. “By providing solutions that, for example, are designed to save time in the operating room, potentially reduce hospital stay or provide real-time analytics that lead to improved efficiency and patient satisfaction, we create value for the health care system as a whole. At the end of the day, providers have the same goal we do: better products and solutions that allow for improved patient outcomes in the most cost-effective and efficient manner. A true total solution.”
DePuy Synthes Advantage offers a suite of flexible solutions to address the unique and evolving needs of customers around the world:
- Improve performance. Given the rising importance of measuring both short term patient outcomes and patient satisfaction, DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction* has signed an exclusive licensing agreement with MedTrak, Inc. to offer subscription-based services through a software solution known as CareSense. This system enables health care providers and institutions to collect and analyze real-time data on the “triple aim” measures of patient outcomes, patient satisfaction and costs.
With CareSense, iPad® or smart phone-based surveys are used by providers and patients before, during and after the patient’s hospital stay to measure the above performance criteria. Hospitals and clinicians may also opt to use validated surveys such as the Knee Society Score and import hospital-specific clinical and financial data into the system. Results are immediately available through custom reports that are generated to help hospitals optimize care. In addition, DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction will analyze aggregated data to provide new solutions and give hospitals the opportunity to benchmark their results against other institutions.
Another performance improvement program associated with DePuy Synthes Advantage™ includes the Geriatric Fracture Program. This is an important program given that an estimated 44 million adults in the United States, or 55% percent of those over the age of 50, have osteoporosis or low bone mass, putting them at risk for a debilitating fracture.1 The Geriatric Fracture Program is focused on the entire episode of care, from the time someone fractures their hip through the process of rehabilitation. Among other things, the program streamlines and standardizes preoperative assessments so that most patients are able to undergo surgery within 24 hours of injury, which is important because earlier intervention may result in better outcomes. In addition, given that older fracture patients tend to have a wide variety of co-morbidities, the program fosters a multi-disciplinary approach, which may in turn reduce complications and improve clinical outcomes, shorten hospital stays and increase patient satisfaction.
- Create capacity by identifying opportunities to improve operating room efficiency. For example, providers can use the DePuy Synthes Advantage™ Tracker iPad® Application to collect and analyze time spent on each step in joint replacement procedures to help identify inefficient processes. DePuy Synthes Advantage™ will offer a number of solutions to enhance procedural efficiency, such as TRUMATCH® Personalized Solutions which can eliminate up to nine steps from the surgical workflow.
- Empower patients through education. Through DePuy Synthes Advantage™, providers have access to a variety of educational materials, including community outreach seminars and programs designed to empower joint replacement patients to share their stories with other patients who are considering joint replacement.
- Maximize resources by using data-driven programs to evaluate costs, inventory management and reimbursement. This includes solutions that, for example, utilize a mix of original equipment and certified reprocessed products to increase affordability of preferred products, drive cost reductions and address environmental sustainability.
“We understand that our customers are trying to do more with less and are being measured differently for the care they provide. At the same time, patients are more involved in managing their health and their expectations for their care have risen dramatically,” said Scott Zellner, Director, DePuy Synthes Advantage. “As a total solutions provider, DePuy Synthes is complementing its core products with innovative services and programs that address customer needs.”
