      Chief Medical Officer, Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine

      Aran is the Chief Medical Officer for Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, the pharmaceuticals segment of the Company, which applies rigorous science and compassion to address the most complex diseases of our time and unlock the potential medicines of tomorrow. Since his appointment in 2017, he has overseen the Innovative Medicine Office of the Chief Medical Officer (IM, OCMO), an objective, functionally independent team that drives patient-centered, ethics- and values-based decision-making across the Company with a primary focus on patient safety, pediatric portfolio strategy, clinical and scientific stewardship of the Established Products portfolio and the Patient Strategy & Solutions group leading our Pre-Approval Access (Compassionate Use) program. The urgent, unmet medical needs of patients inform and inspire the organization’s science-based innovations in the areas of Oncology, Immunology, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular, Pulmonary Hypertension, and Retina.

      In 2012, Aran was promoted to Chief Medical Officer of Johnson & Johnson MedTech, which is working to solve the world’s most pressing healthcare challenges through innovations at the intersection of biology and technology. He was responsible for patient monitoring and safety surveillance practices as well as leadership in ensuring the highest medical and ethical standard, approaches to clinical data transparency and scientific integrity.

      Aran joined Johnson & Johnson in 2006 as Medical Director for J&J’s MedTech company in Australia & New Zealand. In 2008, he was promoted to Vice President, Strategic Medical Affairs for J&J MedTech in Asia Pacific & Japan. In both positions, Aran established a comprehensive Medical Affairs capability while also leading and strengthening Regulatory, Quality and Health Outcomes/Access capabilities in response to rapidly changing regulatory and customer requirements. He has been a strong advocate for quality, compliance, safety, and evidence-based medicine regionally and globally. Prior to joining Johnson & Johnson, Aran worked at The Boston Consulting Group and Merck & Co. (MSD) in Australia & New Zealand.

      Aran holds an honors medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland/National University of Ireland. He trained as a physician in Dublin, obtaining his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (MRCPI) and in interventional cardiology between Dublin, Ireland and Sydney, Australia.
